New jobs club launches in Langworthy

A new jobs club in Langworthy is dedicated to getting Salford residents into work and improving their lives.

Those on the hunt for employment and training opportunities can access free information, advice and support each week at Langworthy Cornerstone.

Run in partnership by a friendly group of volunteers from the Claremont and Weaste Opportunities Club (CWOC) and several local organisations – including Salix Homes, Great Places Housing Group and Langworthy Cornerstone – they are all on hand to help you look for work.

Locals can also benefit from support with money management, computer skills and advice on health matters.

Salix Homes, a key local housing provider, regularly attends the jobs club to support the skilled volunteers and advise people with their housing needs. Salford Credit Union and Citizens Advice Bureau are among the many organisations available for enquiries.

Volunteer Kay Fairhurst, said: “As a club we have an excellent success rate in helping people to transform their lives.

“Every person who has been through our doors has gone on to get a job, undertake training or do volunteer work or receive support.

“There is also a need for a personal service which provides practical and emotional support to help people, not just with finding work, but to help improve their health and wellbeing and finances.”

CWOC also provide a jobs clubs every Thursday, from 10am to 12noon, at Hope Library, Eccles Old Road, Salford, M6 8FH.

Jackie Crook, work and skills manager at Salix Homes added: “These are much more than jobs clubs, they are places that can help people with other aspects of their lives.

“In addition to helping people with job searching, interview techniques and CV writing, the club can signpost you to counselling and financial support.

“It also supports people with their computer skills which is vital in the digital world we live in.

“It’s a great partnership initiative, led by a hearty group of volunteers, all wanting to improve the lives of our residents. Full credit must go to Langworthy Cornerstone for providing valuable space.”

Benjamin Fatimilehin, community development co-ordinator at Great Places Housing Group, said: “The club provides a relaxed, friendly atmosphere for people to come and get support, use the computers and get a brew.

“The club, which is run in partnership with volunteers who are also residents from the local area, means it is a place where local people can help each other, which is really nice to see and be part of. That is what gives it the unique atmosphere, which is appreciated by those using the service.”

The Langworthy Jobs Club meet each Wednesday, from 10am to 12noon, at Langworthy Cornerstone, 451 Liverpool Street, Salford, M6 5QQ.

Langworthy Cornerstone hosts a fun day on Saturday, 1 October as the building celebrates its 15th anniversary. Everyone is welcome to enjoy music, activities, refreshments, and competitions. 10am to 3pm.
