How to Make a Chocolate Chip Cookie in a Mug

Fresh homemade cake in mug with peanut butter and chocolate chips on rustic wooden background.

We all have cravings from time to time —it’s basic human nature. Warm, gooey chocolate chip cookies fresh out of the oven is a popular one. But what if you’re trying to cut back on sweets, or you don’t have the time, ingredients, or inclination to make an entire batch of cookies?

Turns out you can toss your cookie ingredients into a mug and whip up a single-serve chocolate chip cookie right in your microwave. It’ll be fresh, gooey, tasty, takes only a few minutes, and you won’t even have to share.

To make a mug chocolate chip cookie in the microwave, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons of light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons of milk
  • 3 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips
  • A microwave-safe mug

Once you have all your ingredients, combine the flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. You can do this right in the mug or in a separate small mixing bowl.

Next, stir in the butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Once the batter is nice and smooth, fold in the chocolate chips. Transfer the mixture to your microwave-safe mug if you opted to mix the batter in a bowl.

Microwave your batter on high power for 1-2 minutes. The cookie should look puffy and be slightly springy to the touch. Depending on your microwave, you may have to add a few 30-second increments to ensure the cookie is set and cooked all the way through.

Let your creation cool for a minute, then dig in!
