Hard boiling eggs is a great way to have a quick, healthy, protein-filled snack or breakfast on hand. They’re easy to make, inexpensive, and you can make large batches of them at once.

While hard boiled eggs with cracked shells are still safe to eat, this often leads to bloated or distorted eggs. And they don’t last as long in the fridge.
Fortunately, there’s a simple solution to this common annoyance.
All you have to do is let your eggs warm up to room temperature before you pop them into the water. If you stick them directly from the cold fridge into boiling water, such in a quick and extreme change in temperature often causes eggshells to crack.
Therefore you’ll want to leave the eggs out on the counter for 15-20 minutes before boiling them. Or, alternatively, you can stash your eggs in a bowl of room temperature water as your cooking water heats up.
Either way, this will help you to create better-looking hard boiled eggs every time, no cracked eggshells in sight.
